Building

Building in Adelaide

Another option to buying an existing property is to have one built. There are a couple of options where you can buy land and then chose a builder or you can opt for a house and land package. When building a new home you will only pay stamp duty on the land rather than the whole cost of the finished property so you can save quite a considerable amount.

Single and double story houses are available with a huge variety of floor plans, many of which can be customised to your requirements ensuring you end up with your ideal home. Plots of land are still available at affordable prices around South Australia so you can select where you would like your house to be built without being tied into a ready made estate. Around Adelaide and South Australia there are many show home and display villages where you can wander round the different designs and get a feel for the size of the homes and many builders have brochures that you can request displaying their designs and additional options for your house build.

Land and House Packages are available from many of the building companies where the price incorporates both your land plot in a designated area and the cost of the house build. You will often have a few designs that you can chose from and upgrades within the build are often available.

If you are on one of the temporary visas you will have to obtain permission from the FIRB before buying or building. There is a first time home buyers grant available to permanent visa holders. There is more information on both the FIRB and the grant below.

Of course building your own house does not stop at four walls. You will also need to look into paths, driveways, retaining walls, landscaping and may be even a pool!
